We stayed in Melbourne Harbor Marina Christmas 2016 weekend aboard our Hunter 45 Center Cockpit sailboat. Our draft is 6.5 feet. There is very little tide here, apparently because Melbourne is so far from the inlets to the north and south. One person told me the tide was a maximum of only 6 inches. Within 100 feet of the entrance we showed 0 feet below the keel. We might have been touching or even had an inch or two to spare, although it felt like we were pushing through silt. Once past the entrance, the basin is deep, and remained so all the way to the back. Sitting in our well, however, we again showed 0 depth below the keel. The staff (Phil) was very helpful, and waited an extra 45 minutes after closing for us to arrive on Christmas eve afternoon. The restaurant, Ichabod’s, is excellent; try the clam chowder — best we’ve ever had. And the Key lime pie is excellent, too. Two things we found disappointing — the Wi-Fi was a disaster — it was ridiculously difficult to use, and didn’t work most of the time. We texted their tech support and “Keith” was very accommodating (on Christmas day, no less!) and got it to work — but the “fix” only would last a short time. And their password protocol — a different 10 digit number every day — is silly. They got sold a bill of goods on that installation! And, the bathroom/shower rooms need to be cleaned up and brightened up; they’re very long in the tooth and look it.
Updated and detailed depth Melbourne harbor marina As much as we were skeptical we had to get deisel and telemar bays pumps were/are down 12/12/16. We draw 4.7 and the channel is narrow and the deepest water in the channel is very narrow. Maybe 15 ft across. It starts about 15 ft away from the red side of the channel. We never saw less than the 5.5 on the way in rated feet for that marina. The basin is much deeper. On this way out we were riskier we wanted to test it out a bit for this post. The channel has 6ft al the way in and out but I wouldn’t recommend that a 6ft draft go barreling in there. It could be done slowly and carefully. FYI we saw 4-6 inches of barnacles hard growth on channel markers. So use that as a water depth indicator. Staff was nice. Fuel was avg price. Pump out functional but slow. They let us get water at no rush and let us throw quite a bit of garbage in th dumpster around back. I would go here again. Austin Harrell
We tried to get into the harbour last night and hit bottom in the middle of the channel with our 5 ft draft. We had told them we were 5 ft and was told that there was plenty of water. The marina response to our telling them that we were aground was “Call Sea Tow or Boat Tow” it was late afternoon and blowing 18-20. Eventually we got off and were told to keep to the red markers.. We said no thank you and asked for the nearest marina south which was 15 miles so we went four miles back to Telemar which was very welcoming.
The admiral found a quaint British shop in downtown Melbourne on the Internet and made the decision for us to stop in Melbourne, FL. We found the harbor marina to be a great location within walking distance to the downtown area. We found several unique shops including a homemade soap store, but the real highlight was a new restaurant called The Mansion! It has been recently remodeled, is clean, great food (from sandwiches to steaks) and it has a wine market and liquor store within a block of the marina. The best part for me, was the 73 craft beers on tap and available on the shelf to purchase and bring back to the boat. Dean & Beth are the owners, 1218 East New Haven Ave is the address. Claiborne,I am traveling northward from Fort Pierce, FL. to Morehead City, NC. aboard the MY Twilight Time, a WC Hyatt 53′. Having stopped at Melbourne Harbor Marina twice within the last three months, I could not help but notice how rundown the men’s shower has become. It really is in a sad state. While true, Ichabod’s, is still around, the new crown jewel in dining is only one block away, The Mansion in Melbourne. Food, atmosphere, spirits, shopping. deli and a beer garden and rooftop terrace dining with a view of the ICW. Check it out at http://www.thebigmansion.com More as we travel northward. There is a nice channel into this protected marina but there is boat traffic and road noise in the harbor. The suggested walking route into the historic district took us thru some rather questionable areas. Facilities are very limited and were a long hike from the slip. No dockside internet.
Ducked in to Melbourne Harbor Marina for 2 days to wait out some nasty weather this week. It was extremely well-protected from the N and NE winds. It was a very nice marina. Dockmaster very helpful. Ichabods Dockside Grille was a great dinner spot; dinner was great, but the key lime pie was exceptional!! Made on site. Service was terrific too. (Thanks Kim). Fun to be here for Halloween.
